Everyone thinks California is full of dreamy women on the beach. And then...

You fall in love overlooking the pacific somewhere along the coast...

Nah...the heck with that. Let's dive into some real California lifestyle shots taken by your average 40 something photographer who moved to California in search of the dream. This is some of what I have found over the past 4.5 years...

I rented my house back east, packed as much as I could in the back of my Toyota SUV and drove across country.

It's when you get past Texas you start to see the beautiful desert. I had never experienced the desert. Let's dive into that for a moment...

If you get a chance, try glamping. It's for Californians that don't like to rough it...just say they went camping.

Film is well and alive in California

Go about 3 hours from any major city and it will feel like it does back east

Depending on the time of year you may get some nice fog

There is an endless supply of yoga instructors

It really does look like Baywatch when you go to the beach

The dress code is a bit more rugged by hip

Even the kids are cool

When you're bored, go for a hike

Get yourself a dog to join you on those hikes

The pacific is cold and not good for swimming, so just take iphone shots of the sand

Learn how to drive because it's wild on the streets in California

Homeless are everywhere...get used to it

Do a lot of driving; you can be somewhere completely different within 3 hours of any direction

Most of all, visit wine country and drink lots of wine.
