The Greatest Mistake You Should Avoid
One thing you can take pride in is what you have accomplished yourself . Many people take pride in the glory or the achievement of others. It is good to identify with a great person and rejoice in his glory but his glory is not yours.

Your parents can make it big time, acquire all the wealth in the world but it doesn't mean you made it too. Your predecessors who have made it are only serving as a step for you to also reach your goals in life.
Often times parents prepare the future for their children and not their children for the future, they die and afterwards all the wealth get wasted by their children. The reason being that they never prepared their children for the future, they only created wealth in store for them.
We were all born for something perculiar, to achieve something unique that no one else can except us. Every person living on this planent is not here by a mistake but for a greater cause. One thing that should be our priority in life is to find out the reason for our living.
The day you discover it and begins to work towards is the day you begin to enjoy your stay on this planet. Nobody will discover it for you but you alone. What you are born to do now may be different from what your parents are doing now. Even twins born on the same day, from the same womb and looks alike still have different mindset. What you could achieve may be greater than what your parents or any of your relatives have achieved.
Parents often make the greatest mistake of forcing their children to do their will or fulfill their visions or dreams. I heard about a sad story about a young guy whose parents were very rich. Due to their affluence in their nation they wanted their son to reach the pedastal at all cost.
They were bent on seeing their son becoming a medical doctor whiles their son wanted to be a musician. They thought being a doctor was a noble profession than being a musician. After all attempts to convince the father to allow him to do music has failed he decided to fulfill their wish, to be a doctor.
He went to the medical school, graduated successfully and became a doctor. An opportunity came for medical doctors to be honoured and awarded for the services they have rendered to their nation. Great men and important dignitaries all gathered to grace this occasion and you can imagine the excitement, glory and honour.
It got to the turn on this guy who still feels like he is lost in the medical profession because he was coerced. He called his father to join him on stage, took the award and said something that broke the heart of everyone.
I believe this award is for my father and not me.. he said. Son this is your day, you worked so hard for this honour please it is yours...said the father.
No that's for you father, it is the reward for your fulfilled dreams, you wanted me to be a doctor but i wanted to be a musician. I begged you and mum but no one listened to my plea. Now it feels like I'm in a lost world, and do you know how terrible it feels, you made me fulfill your aspirations and not me.. the boy said with tears flowing down on his cheeks.
He handed the plaque to the father and walk away leaving his father on the stage. Everyone looked at the father and it was an embarrassing moment for the him.
I believe you have learnt something here, do not be coerced into doing something against your personal vision for life. Believe in yourself and pursue what you believe in.
Others achievements are theirs and not yours, don't make a mistake by helping others fulfill theirs whiles yours lie dormant.
Tremendous teaching you have left us through this story, I think we should reflect a lot on the role we play as parents and more knowing that we were designed with a purpose. I believe that parents should guide but not impose, pray that the purpose of God in their children is fulfilled, not being ourselves an impediment to it. Many blessings. @anaaguilar
I agree with you, parents are to guide and in the process help their children to discover their God given purposes and pursue them. Thanks for this great comment @anaaguilar
