Based on the book of the same name, Forrest Gump is a person of low IQ but, despite his apparent handicap, he advances to go on various new ventures and meet people who would go on to make history, making his life one of the most fulfilling ones ever.

The quote comes from the very first scene of the film. While waiting for a bus, Forrest Gump (which was played by Tom Hanks) offers a piece of chocolate from a box. He then remembers one of his mother’s sayings, which just so happens to be the quote, “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you gonna get.”
