One Can Make a Difference

I found myself in an environment where several people have made a choice to join others in an act not because it’s the right thing to do but because they will feel cheated at the end of the day if they don’t act in such manner. Suffice to say “if you can’t beat them, join them”. They have so come to believe that their choice to be different might make no difference In the long run.

According to the above quote if each of us would decide to act and do right it will culminate into an unimaginable change that will be evident to all. However, even if one person decides to make that difference and act and do right, it might not make a lot of difference to all, but it sure would have made a difference to the one who decided to act right and appeal to his/her conscience and also to the one he must have acted rightly to. In fact it may be a turning point to that one person.

I guess several of us knows the story of the young boy and the starfish:

He was walking by the beach and he saw a lot of starfish that had been washed up the sand by the wave of the sea. Without hesitation he began to pick them one by one and throw them back to sea so they won’t die. As he continued, a man saw him and said what difference would it make when he can’t save all the starfish. He bent over and threw another starfish into the sea and he turned to the man and answered, it made a difference to that one.

Life is all about living with the right perception.

Whatever we have chosen to do in life must be checked with how it resonates with our conscience.

I know a woman who worked in a particular location in the country Nigeria but was transferred to a new office in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria. Over the next few weeks of her resumption she was amazed at the rate at which bags of money flow in and out to bribe in order to secure on contract or another. She couldn’t comprehend how such level of corruption will be condoned hence she requested to be transferred somewhere else where she could keep her sanity and faith. She left there in less than two months. Yes, leaving was a good option, else she would have been implicated or harmed just because she didn’t belong.

One can actually make a difference. Imagine the impression a police officer will make to a motorist for not taking bribe. Just imagine the difference just ONE vote will do in an election and the country. One car that decides not to shunt the traffic will make a lot of difference not to cause traffic jam. If you really think One cannot make so much difference, ask the captain of a ship and he will tell you how a slight turn of the rudder can change the entire course of the ship. I am sure you have heard this saying before that One match stick can consume a forest.

Can you fix it all? NO. You are not made to fix everything, Just make little attempts to fix just one thing and see the difference it will make.

The population of the world is estimated to be 7 Billion or more and everyone is different, non identical. God made us all different so we can make a difference.

ONE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE, YOU CAN MAKE THAT DIFFERENCE.
