Hello world! +writing in the future

in #lifelessons8 years ago

Wow, I'm so excited writing my first post on Steemit. I know I could have started earlier, but I’m fine with that. The point is: we are writing in the future.
Let me tell you a short story. I once asked different people how I could become a journalist in Italy. That was one of my dream in my life; after I finished high school I decided that I would have become a journalist specialized in economics. Here is what they told me: to get the qualification of journalist I had better attend a journalism school and then find some newspaper that payed for my articles. If I had published enough articles in a two years span (if I remember correctly, around 40) I could have received the qualification of journalist.

Long story short: the mere idea of going through all of this process made me sick and I discarded it. I found a lot of space on the Internet where I could write my ideas: blogs, Facebook, Medium - great platforms indeed. And now: Steemit! I heard that there is some discussion going on whether the money created by Steemit is sound or creates a Ponzi scheme...but I don't really care. What matter – as always – is the idea…and a great idea is finally on Earth: a publishing platform where authors according to readers’ preferences and through crytpcurrencies. I feel like having found the place where I always wanted to write.
Looking backward I can now say that I didn't really wanted to become a journalist, I want to journal what I wanted.
This insight is probably inspired by that sharing-economy-slogan that says "I don't need a drill, I need a hole in the wall".

That's something I learned in the last years: we often long for something we don't actually need.
I was longing for a journalist license, I actually never needed.
I was longing for a job that could provide me with a wage I didn't really need. In fact, in Italy it is custom to say that you need at least 1000 euro/month to make a decent living. As I moved one year ago to the countryside, I realized that by cultivating my own vegetable garden and by burning wood I found in the forest I could reduce the money I spent in food and heating. I now ask myself: how much euros do I really need? Maybe less than I thought.

In conclusion hello world and hello to a world that is radically different to the one I lived just 7 years ago, when - in March 2009 - I finished my Bachelor in economics and asked my supervisor to get some advice for becoming a journalist. This one is so much better.

I also had the idea of being a writer a long time ago. And, although I am off to a slow start here, I feel this forum is a great place to start that ambition for real. Also, love that saying, "I don't need a drill, I need a hole in the wall." One to remember.

I have the same feeling too. Best wishes!
