Corps, New Orleans port to deepen access to Uptown docks for large ocean-going vessels
There are no plans to capture and reuse the sediment to build wetlands, as is done as part of maintenance dredging projects at locations further downriver. Instead, the material would simply be dumped in the river's main channel adjacent to the docks, which is about 200 feet deep.
Interesting article about a plan to deepen an area of the Mississippi River to allow for larger ships to dock there. Too bad they can't reuse the sediment to build more land, the swamps and marshes around there could really use it. Other than that I really don't see too much environmental impact from this.
