5 prototypes that came to be produced

If you think that prototypes designed for display in auto shows should have the opportunity to show you what they are worth on the road, this article is for you.

Sports cars prototypes

Here is a list of some of the best prototypes built by leading brands and which, unlike others, have come to see the light of day.

Volkswagen Golf GTI W12-650

Introduced in 2007 at an annual Austria Fan Festival, this super-special Golf GTI was one of the best daydreams in Volkswagen history. The baptismal name is inspired by the engine architecture and power: W12-650. And the competition-looking machine even had a lot of growth in length and breadth for the introduction of a variant of the 6.0-liter 12-cylinder Phaeton engine (450 hp), which, with two turbos, produces 650 hp at 6000 rpm. And, of course, the benefits impress as much as the technological details. The 650 accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds and reaches 325 km / h.

Jaguar CX-750

Presented in 2010 at the Paris Motor Show to commemorate Jaguar's 75th anniversary, this hybrid was powered by four electric motors, one per wheel, and two mini-turbines that generated 95 hp and recharged lithium-ion batteries for a autonomy. With 780 hp and a very low weight (just over 1300 kg), the CX-750 reached from 0 to 100 km / h in just 3.4 seconds and reached 329 km / h.

Audi Le Mans quattro

Probably one of the cars with more pint that the mark of the four rings already produced: it was presented in 2003, in the Motor Show of Frankfurt, in Germany, where it squandered sophistication and style. In the front section, the beautiful optics impressed almost as much as their technical specifications worthy of a racing car. The 5.0 FSI V10, mounted longitudinally between the passenger compartment and the rear axle, could be observed from the outside, through the glass cover. With 610 hp (it was the same engine as the Lamborghini Galhardo, but with a further 110 hp ...), it "arranged" the traditional measurement from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds. The top speed was electronically limited to 250 km / h, but reached 345km / h ...

Volkswagen W12 Nardo

Yes, Volkswagen did it again! An incredible 12-cylinder engine, this naturally aspirated, would once again be the soul of an unforgettable prototype that, under the experienced baton of Ferdinand Piëch, was receiving refinements here and there to achieve a bombastic final form: the W12 Nardo, with 600 hp and only 1200 kg, reached 357 km / h of top speed. Do not you think that is so impressive? What if we tell you that this concept was introduced in 2001?

Ford GT90 = 407km/h

It is impossible to speak of prototypes capable of ballistic performances without leaving a place of prominence for the GT90. The prototype with which Ford shook the Detroit Motor Show in the distant year of 1995 was so potent that the engine cradle was embedded in ceramic plates specifically developed by NASA so that some components did not melt in the heat. With a 720 horsepower engine, aluminum chassis and carbon fiber body panels, the maximum speed of the GT90 was a whopping 407 km / h. Not bad for a "veteran" with more than two decades.
