Everybody is the hero of his\her own story, though.
I think bad leaders\bosses act like that because they mostly fear that people won't respect them if they don't. Once you gain some power, at any level, it's hard to imagine to let it go, I guess. I wouldn't know, I don't even have power over my cat :)
