Great Food - Just Like Mom Used to Make

Do you still make the effort to share meals with your family?

Growing up we tend to forget that food isn't just a form of sustinence.
It goes beyond that, sharing meals with loved ones is a way of becoming closer , acknowledge each other, and is one way we display our love with actions rather than words. The dinner table is also where young children pick up a-lot of the social-ques and etiquette that will help them interact with others down the line.

If we didn't share meals with family we wouldn't have been anywhere near as close.

When our mothers/fathers/grandma's use their hands to cook the food they make for us to eat they do so with all their heart and soul and when they serve it up piping hot and fresh out of the oven they eagerly await our reaction. When we take that huge first bite and get that stupidly happy grin on our face that is the form of love and gratitude that our moms want to see

We live in a fast pace society and end up going to eat out because we've come to view cooking as a chore

We have to go out of our way, to buy ingredients, make a huge mess in the kitchen, slave over the hot stove just for a single hot meal. We tend to forget the whole point of making a home-cooked meal and sitting around and sharing that experience with our family.

It has nothing to do with convenience. It's about the connections we make when we sit at a table and partake in something that someone has created to nourish us. It's sad that convenience is driving us away from such an integral and fundamentally important part of being a human being. There's a concept of "us" the family grouping that we are losing, instead becoming a society of "me".

So for us that still have parents and loved ones that take the time to make these hot meals, take a second and think about what it means for them. Realize that especially for our mothers there was a point in our lives we couldn't wait to eat what they had made for us. There was a point when our mothers held us in their arms and they were our entire world. Many of us are at a stage where our parents are coming to terms with the fact that we don't rely on them as much as we used to and for them that hits like a dagger.

Meals with our family are finite, Don't take the for granted.

I try not to think or even talk about these thing regularly because when I do it brings me down, but at the same time if we don't do this it doesn't put it in perspective.

So next time your enjoying a hot meal don't just focus on the food, remember the heart and the hands that made them.

Thanks for taking the time to share my thoughts. I hope you gleaned some useful info no matter how minuscule.
