Hitch-Hiking in Italy

in #life8 years ago (edited)

This is me and my backpack that has gone through various adventures with me.

In 2014 me and a friend took a flight from Berlin to Rome the plan in mind to hitch-hike back. So coming out of the airport we started walking... and walking... it was summer so you can imagine how sweaty we got after one hour. Fortunatly we found a gas station and with hands and feet we could communicate that we were looking for the beach. So we went on walking the right direction until a nice man picked us up and drove us all the way there.

We had a nice chat about our familys and about our travel plans. We told him that we would like to go to Ostia Antica later, a place I've already been to at a school excursion. He said, it was not to far and that he could go home for some hours and pick u up later. We were super happy and enjoyed the beach of for several hours to get very sunburned. Then he arrived on a motorcyle and told us his daughter would come and drive us with the car. It was a crazy ride. Very tiny roads, high speed and humping on every corner so noone would crash into you.

If you have never visited Ostia Antica I really recommend you to go. It used to be the harbour city of Rome and you can see a lot of nice artwork there. Also the herbs that grow there have a beautiful smell and walking around the place is very calming and relaxing. If ou don't take to long. The Gate closes at 6pm. At 7pm we returned to the gate(the area is very big so you can really plan a day for it). It was a huge Gate with spikes on top and back then I was not experienced in climbing at all so I was super afraid. After another half hour to go over the first fence we realized that there were two more fences too come. After all that climbing we had a nice Pizza and were happy to find a nice wild camping spot close by.

Hope you enjoyed reading my story about arriving in Italy and how we got to Ostia Antica. Maybe I will tell you more about this crazy trip.

Lots of Love to you <3
