Who Are You Really? How do we Define Ourselves?

We ask the question- who are you? What an open ended question! How can one adequately define who they are, and how could we possibly define another who we are not.

When asked who we are, we aim to impress. We reply with our occupation, education, religion, and other achievements. Are we the sum of our achievements?

In truth, it is impossible to define who we are in a conversation, or even in a novel. A human life is so deep and vast that words cannot adequately define it. Our brains take in terrabytes of information daily, and even that would take a reem of paper to explain in depth. Good luck defining an entire lifetime.

We often look down on people in certain life circumstances. The homeless man, the prisoner and the addict are often the subject of our derision. Can we really judge them unfit based on their current unsavory practices? Are we so righteous that this is an adequate measure?

Before you judge someone based on a snapshot or a small snipet, think about your own life. Would you want to be judged on a snapshot? Would you like to explain yourself before someone writes you off?
