According to experts, lack of sleep harms the brain no less alcohol.
A group of scientists from Los Angeles researched the problem of lack of sleep for a person and came to the conclusion that lack of sleep is as harmful to the brain as alcohol. An article on this topic was published in the scientific publication Nature Communications.

It is reported that specialists analyzed the brain of twelve patients with epilepsy by implanting electrodes into it. In this case, all participants were required to distribute different images into categories.

As a result, it turned out that the more sleepy a person was, the harder he coped with the task.

"We were fascinated to see how sleep deprivation slowed brain activity." Neurons, who were quick in the usual situation, reacted slowly, worked less efficiently, and switched for longer than usual, "Dr. Yuval Nir noted.

Also, the researchers noted that, despite the wakefulness of the participants' brain, yet a certain part of it seemed to have "fallen asleep." This, in turn, could cause eye problems and memory dips.

"This lays the foundation for cognitive miscalculations in how we perceive the world around us and how we react to it," one of the experts added.
