the Perfect Birthday Cake
a little Background
For some reason my wife gets it in her head that for the birthdays of our children we have to make the most beautiful and extravagant cakes.
She spends hours browsing the internet searching for ideas and inspiration and to be honest, the idea is really nice, but there are three flaws with this idea:
- No one will appreciate this
- The kids are too young to remember
- She doesn't have the patience to do all the nitty gritty, eensie weensie detailed works that it requires to make these beautiful cakes
That doesn't take away from the fact that we need to have a beautiful cake and we need to make it ourselves.
Our daughter's First Birthday
For our daughter's first birthday 2 years ago, my parents came over and my wife got the help from my dad.
My dad helped with the cake and she got someone she met on a Facebook group to make the animals for her
Our daughter's Second Birthday
This time the theme was 'Hello Kitty' and she needed 3 cakes, 1 for the birthday party, 1 for daycare and 1 for the celebration with the family. The one for the party, like this year's had to be the most extravagant, but this time she didn't have my dad around to help her, so I had to step in. This is the result:
Two tiers with a 'Hello Kitty' on top
Our daughter's Third Birthday
Tomorrow we're celebrating our daughter's third birthday with her friends and their parents and this time the theme is 'Frozen', the Disney movie. She has been planning this for months. Admittedly, my daughter loves Anna & Elsa (the 2 main characters), she has everything imaginable with their faces on it.
For the birthday party, my wife got everything for the decorations in this theme, from crockery to balloons and snowflakes. So of course the cake also has to be in this theme and naturally I stepped in to help again for the majority of today. Here is the result:
Everything except from the figurines is edible
This year my contribution has been the biggest so far. My wife has prepared all the ingredients, but I have put almost all of it together, with the exception of the snowflakes and the balls. The 'ice' is made of sugar, the snow is 'fondant', the blue snow is chocolate.
Next year
My wife has said that we'll never do this again, but she says this every year and I am very afraid of what she comes up with next time
Doron
they seem to get more extravagant every year...
cant wait till she hits like 12 or so... that will be an amazingly huge cake
At that age she can make her own cake 😉
Wow... she really did a good job on them all. I'm a baker so i know a good job when i see one. I think I'm also gonna do a frozen themed cake for my next customer. Great post! Hapi birthday to your little princess.
Thank you!
The cakes are looking great i'm sure they have great taste as well it's took me long time to convince my wife to buy cakes and not to do it her self ( even she make great cakes )
If the wife like it let her do it ...
Thanks, I'm not sure if I'll try to convince my wife to stop this. It's a passion of her and I think I have a better chance to pray for summer to come earlier this year 😉
Aww she just wants the best for your kids. Shes a great mum, that wants to make the birthdays special.
Yes, she is!

the cakes look very tasty, it is good that you take pictures of each one and show them to your daughter when she is an adult.
LOL, that's the only thing that'll be left of them and we are proud of them. Pity that she won't remember them 😉
