We've all made decisions in diverse situations either good or bad, little do we really understand what decision entails.
I personally don’t dwell on the after effect and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
We may say we don’t know our future, but the decisions we make define and shape our future.
Therefore, it is substantive to know that decision or better still decision making is the process of a preferred logical choice from the available options.
Every decision making process begets a final choice which may either be favorable or unfavorable.
Decision making is the act of pinpointing and choosing alternatives based on preferences, values and beliefs of the decision maker.
Many a times, we've come across people who have made decisions that turns out inimical. Parents as well as youths are battling with so many issues due to the decision they've made in the past. Today, you'll find out that most parents make decisions for their children and in most cases, such decisions jeopardize the future of the child involved. The fact remains that children need the guidance of their parents, but not essentially their parents making decisions for them.
Most parents repeatedly want their children to be like them and most times restrain them from doing things which they predict would turn out bad as a result of their experience in life.
This tends to prevent the child from learning and arriving at certain decisions themselves, thereby hindering them also from learning and understanding certain responsibilities and the role decision plays.
Looking at the youths of today in Nigeria
I am tempted to say the reason for stagnation in Nigeria is as a result of our parents making decisions for us.
It is alarming to note that most young people find themselves in disturbing situations and making the right decision becomes a challenge.
They sometimes make these decisions out of curiosity and the adventure is regret.
Most times some of them decide out of pressure, lack of will and lack of matured mind.
In our world today, we have teenagers and youths who are battling with one issue or the other to the extent that it has cost so many their lives, education, integrity, self-esteem, confidence etc.
They make decisions without proper evaluation and understanding, as they have not fully come to understand the effects of these decisions.
This is because their parents made most of their life decisions for them and never thought it wise to explain the responsibility involved to them.
Decisions are part of our everyday life. It’s either good or bad and such decisions doesn't affect only the decision maker but those who are close to the decision maker and the society at large.
Fact remains that we do not live for ourselves alone but others as well, therefore we shouldn't be self-centered when making decisions.
Think about others and how such decisions will affect and influence others, the society and the world at large because every positive change in life begins with a clear, unequivocal decision that you're going to either do something or stop doing something.
