Mr Robert Tilley - Won The Lottery Twice - Died Yesterday After Crashing The Car He Bought With the Winnings.

in #life7 years ago

Mr. Robert Tilley was a local celebrity, he won the lottery twice!  Prior to winning the lottery he was a Combat Veteran and an Engineer who worked at Boeing, NASA and other prominent places.

*Mr Robert Tilley and His Famous Yellow Camaro

He lead a wild and interesting life using his winnings to enjoy travel, share with others, and buy a beautiful sports car.  His yellow Chevy Camaro was often a topic of conversation and a couple of times the topic of our local Facebook pages.  As he loved that car and was often criticized for the way he drove it.  (According to some he drove it too hard and fast)

Tilley was also known for his generosity he occasionally handed out $100 bills and paid local teens to do chores and yard work for the elderly.  He bought a local widow a car when she suddenly needed transportation.  His Facebook page is covered in pictures of restaurants, food, specialty beers, travel and of course his cats.  My only personal interaction with him was him buying the bar a round one night when I was there with friends singing karaoke songs and enjoying some bar food and a drink.

On March 20th Mr. Tilley crashed and rolled his Camaro, in an accident described in the article below.  (He died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the accident)  What isn't mentioned in the article is the accident took place between a local bar, he had just left and the local schools at 3:30 in the afternoon when the buses were running and many children were traveling from school to sports practices.

In death as in his life Mr. Tilley's life, choices and style are the topic of a heated debate in this small town.  Did the bar over serve him?  (This is being discussed intensely locally, complete with rumors, assumptions and bad feelings.)  Should family or someone have done something about him and that car?  The debate rages on.  The police will continue to investigate and sadly today the passenger, his friend, also passed away as a result of the accident.

RIP - Mr. Robert Tilley and condolences to your family and friends.

A friend of his made the following comment on the Article talking about his death.

"Robert passed on like he lived, at full throttle, it was an honor to serve with him in the Air Force."

Sad story. Just goes to show that you can be on top of the world one moment, with everything going your way, and then have it all taken away from you in the next instant. I think it's important to live life humbly, be thankful for the good things that come your way, and make every moment count because you never know how much time you have left. The only certainty in life, and one thing we all have in common, is that someday our time will run out, and there's no telling when that will be.

Very true. My mind was also thinking about how we can judge so harshly one act of a person, and ignore the rest. Most of us have some good and some bad in us.

However, I think you have hit on an important part of the story.

You just never know when ! 😨

The comments on the KHQ story are funny to me. It appears he was everyone's uncle. Man that really sucks, I like what his friend said, "Robert passed on like he lived, at full throttle, it was an honor to serve with him". Rest assure if I die flying a Cessna, I hope my family can smile and say that I was doing what I loved. I didn't know him but I bet he was cool as shit.

He had a strong impact on people, they either loved him or hated him. :) I get the feeling he was pretty fun as well.

Wow... I guess it just goes to show that we need to be grateful for every moment we have, since we never know which one will be our last. Sounds like he was a reasonably good guy with his winnings... a lot of lottery winners seem to fritter it all away on gambling and luxury yachts in a few years.

Yes, he did some really nice things. By all accounts he was extremely intelligent. Locally he seemed to envoke very strong feelings.

Totally agree on the we don't know when our number is up..
