 Addiction

By the time one is addicted, said addiction has become a part of the body.  Wine, Coke, Meth, rushes through every vein, lives in every cell, has taken up residence in the affected brain, impacting critical thinking, causing unbearable pain when one tries to evict it.  The enemy has been a safe-space, a comforting friend when nobody else was there to comfort the “host”.  It makes one feel bigger, and offers non judgemental shelter, while wrapping it’s deceptive arms around the addicted.  Just as one tries to fight against this power which is both internal and external, it brings pain disguised as comfort.  The impacted often has pushed those who love them to their final limits, the substance has brought the victim to their knees, and the victim is met with anger and hurt from those who could offer sanctuary.  With the addicted at the breaking point, the addictive force whispers, I will be here for you, I will wrap my tentacles around your aloneness, I will soften your pain, and I will make you feel better, come to me my friend. Nobody understands you like I do.   Alone in a wasteland of loneliness and sickness, any force which welcomes a lonely heart is a sanctuary.  A sanctuary of death.
