Absolutely agree 100% @webcoop.

We have 3 children in the Public school system and they doing really well. So happy for them and am happy about the teachers there too!

Of course like in any place you get the committed and the not-so-committed teachers. But that's not the clincher.

Whether Private or Public, to each his/her own.

I'm a believer that my children must play their part and make their school great... (in any system for that matter) and not the other way around.

For example, proud of my eldest daughter as she was selected as her School Captain (Year 12) this year.

Again thanks for the post.

Cheers!

My son is at public school atm and he is loving it. However, we have no good public high school around our catchment, if we don’t want to move, we will have to send him to private school.
We went to a few private school around the area on the open day. One thing I do noticed is that student in the private school is more well behaved (less running on the hallways...etc. ) but they also said laugh/smile less.
If the Kid doesn’t like to study, no matter which school we sent him, he won’t be able to perform in the national exam.

But private school may have more resources like computers? Which is an advantage for the learning experience? I assume

When dealing with high school, I think that is where we can see the big difference with them 2 public school and private school.

It's a good thing you guys are doing your research where to send your child for high school because in the end, it is your child's education.

Over here in Netherlands they don't have this public and private divide. It's hard to explain (and I'm not totally sure if I understand it right, and it is only my experience with primary schools).

All the schools receive funding from the government based upon their enrolment. Apart from meeting certain benchmarks, the schools are completely independent. They can set their own hours (we currently have 4 days a week), their own teaching philosophy and anything else!

There is a 'voluntary' contribution for extra stuff like excursions or music or things like that. Ours is on the expensive side of things (500 euro per year, or 300 for low income), but it really isn't compared to what school fees could be.

The system has its advantages and disadvantages (like all systems), but on the whole it seems to work okay.

I wish we have that system here too.....

Schools should not be judged because it is a public school or private school but with the school's and teacher's performance.

There are also less good things about this system as well.

Most people don't travel more than about 5 or 10 minutes walk or bike to their school (we unusually travel about 25 minutes by car). So it tends to be that the better schools tend to be concentrated in richer areas. So, the better teachers want to go to those schools, so those schools do better... Endless cycle!

And, coming from the Australian system, the huge variety of teaching methods is absolutely bewildering! Who knew there were so many ways to teach kids!

Public schools are kinda good in a way. It exposes the child to the harsh realities of life. It also toughens you up for challenges.
But the standard of living for a private school is better even though its more expensive

That is what I thought, because it is private and we are paying heaps money for it, we thought that this particular private school will look after our child better than of a public school but we were wrong so far.

I enjoyed reading your post. There is a lot of good stuff

Thank you very much
