How will you feel driving in Malaysia

in #life7 years ago

I passed my my driving test at the age of 17, and continued to drive since then until now.
As a man, I kinda enjoy driving on the road. This explained why I would always be the driver for friend outing.

Below I am sharing my experience of driving in Malaysia.

Driving in the capital city Kuala Lumpur

I don’t like to drive in this hustle city. The main reason is because of the congestion. Although Kuala Lumpur is not in the list of world most congested city, the traffic condition can be very bad during rush hour. Travel time of 10 minutes can be extended to 1 hour if you’re lucky enough.

The expressway/ highway

The highway speed limit in Malaysia is 110km/hr. The most popular highway in Malaysia is the North South Expressway.
From Johor(border of Singapore) to the northern Kedah (border of Thailand), it stretch 772 KM long, and there’s toll charge for the usage. It is also known as the best maintained highway in Malaysia but watch out, speed trap is everywhere and it cost you RM300 to get one. I bet you will rather spend the money in one night at 3.5 stars hotel.

Passing through the trunk road

Driving pass the trunk road is another option to travel from town to town. It is a cheaper alternative as there’s no toll charge for the usage. Due to this, there’s a lot of trucks on the road.
This become challenging because in order to go faster, you need to overtake the obstacles in front of you (the trucks). Another fact is that there will be wild animals (monkey, lizard, cow, sheep) coming out from the road side from the jungle, so you need to be very alert other wise you might become a animal murderer.

In a small village

I came from a small town and to be honest, driving in a town is pretty much enjoyable. From my house to the shopping center is just few click away. Though it is not as stressful as driving in big city, you still have to watch out for the bikes coming out of nowhere. “Mat Rempit” is how we call them and if you are lucky, they will perform some circus stunts in front of you.

Above are a the common genre of driving experience you get if you drive in Malaysia. Of course, there are other type of driving experience you will see.
For example driving up to Genting Highland from Kuala Lumpur, the trip will take you 45 minutes to the uphill.
If you are adventurous type of driver, you may drift when going downhill but please be reminded that your grave is just under your feet.

What kind of interesting driving experience you will see in your country? Welcome you to comment and share more.
