Focusing On Failure And Success
Failure Practice is an old military proverb. It goes something like this: The best things in life are not free, but paid for. Failure is the price you pay for achieving your objectives. Failure can be good, as in the case of great achievements and personal successes, or it can be bad, as in the case of failures, disappointments, and financial privations.
What if the very act of failure could be the benchmark of your success? In other words, what if failure could be your yardstick that shows whether you have attained success or not? You might think that this is an exaggeration, but I think it's exactly correct.
How can failure help you achieve your goals? First of all, failure can show you the importance of doing your best, of committing to your vision, and of believing in yourself. When you fail, you can see how strongly you believe in your own ability. You may have previously thought that you were a dud, but by seeing your own effort to succeed through the eyes of a failure, you can make yourself much more likely to keep at it once you've gotten past your initial challenges. Also, failure can show you how to focus on the big picture instead of on individual goals. Failure can teach you to put things in perspective, to ask yourself how much trouble is really involved in trying to do something, rather than how much money is going to be spent.
Failure, in itself, shows up as a natural outgrowth of your success mindset. Your expectations were based on your previous experiences, which led to a conclusion that you would continue to achieve success in the same way. By seeing your failures in a different light-as something that can teach you how to move past them, instead of as a complete disaster, you can begin to see the potential for growth in your future undertakings. Failure can inspire you to become more persistent, to work harder, to hold your head high, and to refuse to accept defeat.
There's no reason for you to feel bad about yourself because of your own failures. You have all kinds of experiences that could be labeled "failure," and each of these experiences teaches you valuable lessons. The only reason that you're having a problem is that you're focusing on your failures and not looking at your successes. That's a very different approach than what people who focus on their successes do. They tend to see only the good in every failure, and to feel bad about the bad in their own life.
If you want to have a successful mindset, you need to take a look at your successes and failures and identify what your problem is. Then, begin to change the way you think about failures, and look at those same successes in a different way. Begin to view failure as an opportunity, or as a sign that you should try harder next time. By taking this approach to failure, you'll be able to use your failures to help you grow as a person and to make your success stronger.
Another approach is to look at your failure as something that will teach you something. After seeing it, you can either use the lesson to your advantage or to help you grow. For instance, if you've made a lot of mistakes but you know you can't do anything right, you might be inclined to see your past failures as a sign that you just haven't been lucky enough to break through. But if you focus more on the fact that you were trying, you'll have a much better chance of making things work out in the end.
Finally, you should understand that your failures won't prevent you from having success. If you focus on your past failures, and on how you could have done things differently, you might convince yourself that you're destined for failure, but that's absolutely wrong. Your true success lies somewhere in between those two points - between the lesson you learned from your past failures, and the realization that you're worth something. In fact, your success is in the success mindset that you choose to adopt, and you're entitled to whatever success you get.
