What Do I Want To Do When I Grow Up?

in #life6 years ago

It's a tough thing to say to yourself at 40, but I am really not sure what I want to do when I grow up. There are things that I am doing that I enjoy, but I still feel like I have not really found my niche yet.

Do you feel the same way?

For me, I love being creative. I like writing, painting, business planning, joke telling and so much more. The problem is, I don't know what I want to do. What I want to really commit to.

Currently I publish books, handle a few marketing clients and run comedy shows. I just think there is so much more that I could be doing.

This week we saw Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain commit suicide and it seems like they had their lives figured out. It seemed like they were successful at doing what they loved and clearly, something was wrong.

Everything in my life is good except my career path. So I feel lucky in a lot of ways. It is still tough to admit, and I am saying it on here to you all because I am more honest with my Steemit fans than anywhere else.  I make some money and could always make more, but that really isn't the issue. The issue is not really knowing what I want out of life, professionally. It is frustrating.

Something needs to change though, and I've got to make that change. I have to figure something out.

I'm sorry that this blog doesn't offer any great advice or inspiring commentary. What I do hope you take away from this blog is that we all have stuff to figure out and improve. We should all be striving to find fulfillment in many ways. Without struggle, there wouldn't be rewards.

I really hope you all have a great weekend and thank you for reading.

If you feel this way sometimes, let me know in the comments.

Thanks again.

I am much older than you and one thing I am certain of is nothing out here is real. Oh I know it seems real, but it isn't.

The ego will NEVER be satisfied. Just part of the deal.

The only peace and happiness to be had come from within.

There you go. I did not say it is easy.

I did not know you were into comedy .. I will save that info for another time.

As far as the suicides so sad, if they would have just held on.
BTW: do what makes you happy :)

I am 40 also and feel the same. Most of us did not grow up with stable homes. Most of us can not count on stable jobs/careers. The future seems a bit ominous. So, a lot of our bouncing around makes sense.

Your are lucky you are thinking for yourself at40.it,s not too late you can do what you want.because real happiness is always where when we get full fill our wish.

That's deep bro...
I would imagine it to be melancholic to ask that question at 40. I do not believe you are yet 40 yo.
For some personality, there is no prescribed profession that will make you happy. I have feeling you are one of these guys. So I would recommend to just build your own career. Whatever you do, just make sure that you are building your own assets and not somebody else's.

Learning at the age og 40 is a brilliant thing. You are thinking about growing a very nice idea. You can get more better your reward when you always think about growup. Nice post. And everyone should adopt your way.

Thanks for sharing, I really needed to hear that. I came to Steem to hopefully find a niche and fill it with great content> I am a newbie here on steem but i am still asking that question at 47! Go figure!
