This Is How A Man Relaxes
Whenever I need to relax and let my mind disengage… I like to read, but not just anything. Normally I read all the time, articles online, non-fiction books, self-help and training books and tons of blogs on Steemt, but there is only one author I read when it is time to chill.

But when it is time for me to relax, I read some Clive Cussler.
Clive Cussler is the male version of Danielle Steele. He delivers what men think about all the time… adventure, mystery, danger, cars, boats, history, women and so much more.

The adventures take place all over the world and often share pieces of history and nautical lore that I have never experienced. In the Clive Cussler world, he created something called NUMA. The National Underwater and Marine Agency is the fictitious organization that his main character works for.
In real life, he also created an organization called NUMA that has discovered over 65 shipwrecks thought lost to the sea. He and his organization found the Hunley, the first submarine used in the Civil War.

He collects rare cars and has a private museum that Jay Leno would go nuts for.

He is a very interesting guy and writes some really fun novels. These are not the books that are going to win any awards for incredible literature, but they are awesome to read if you want to escape. I’ve read six of his many books and I have ranked the ones I’ve read for you.
6. Inca Gold – In this adventure Pitt saves a woman from drowning in a ancient cenote in South America and follows a criminal art dealer to the depths of a hidden lake under a Mexican desert.
5. Sahara – This book is just a lot of fun as Dirk Pitt saves another woman while looking for an old civil war treasure in the deserts of Africa. Also while on the journey he stops a plague from wiping out the oceans.
4. Raising The Titanic – I read this one many years ago when I was a kid. I loved the Titanic and a story about Pitt being called in to help raise the historic ship was awesome. It is also prophetic in some ways as the Titanic was discovered about 7 years after publishing.
3. Poseidon’s Arrow – Written in 2012 with his son, Poseidon’s Arrow is one of the newer books where Pitt is recruited to help save a Naval sea weapon after he saves a woman to start the book. He is always saving women. The ending of this book is awesome and I couldn’t put it down and read 6 hours strait to finish it one night. (I just read this one over vacation last week.)
2. Atlantis Found – It is hard for me to put this at number 2, because it is so close to number 1. Atlantis Found is awesome… Pitt saves a woman to start the book and then goes on an adventure to stop leftover Nazi’s trying to take over the world. This story goes from Colorado to an island in the Pacific to Antartica with stops all over the place. This book is a lot of fun.
1. Shock Wave – The opening of this book is just incredible. It tells of an old ship carrying prisoners being wiped out by a storm and how some survivors try to hold onto life on a makeshift raft they built. By the end, everything is tied together nicely and the action and suspense in this one is just awesome. Highly recommend.
His books are long and a great way to relax. Actually when I really need to escape and lose my mind for a little while, I always go to a Clive Cussler book. I have plenty of them.
I’ve picked them up at GoodWill and thrift shops so I have enough to keep me going for a while.
What kind of books do you like to read? What do you do to relax? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Thanks for reading…
To my followers, you are the plot that keeps me turning the pages.
I also like Clive Cussler. I have read a lot of his books. One of my favorite authors is John Jakes. Have you heard of him? He has written books such as the North and South trilogy about the Civil War and the Kent family chronicles. If you are interested in historical fiction he has some really great books. I could talk all day about this but if you are interested let me know. Thanks
I have not read John Jakes, but will check it out. Is there one I should start with? I do like historical fiction if it is fun to read. I don't read a lot of fiction books, but the ones I do are generally a lot of fun like Cussler. Thank you for reading and replying. It is nice to meet you and you picked up a new follower.
What would you recommend me starting with from John Jakes?
It just depends on what you like there are some about the civil war the revolutionary war and many other topics. Some are series and others just one book. California Gold and Homeland were both great books they are not just about war. North and south trilogy is a great Civil War story. I haven't ever read one of his books that I could put down.
Awesome! I'l look for the California Gold one. I put him on my list. I generally only buy books at thrift shops so I'll keep an eye out for them. Thanks for the great suggestions.
OMGosh reading, herbals and bonsai and since getting here to steemit meeting new folks who do the same!
I've never done the herbals or bonsai, but I'v always wanted to have a bonsai tree. Great tips. Thanks for your support!
Followed, Upvoted, and Highly rEsteemed!
I hear you like my portraits, but it's Franklin.
