Visit to Sarnath Part2 - The tranquil journey continues...
Stupas, Alligators, Lotuses, 100 year old murals/frescoes and More....
As I mentioned in Part 1 of the blog - Sarnath is one of the most holy Buddhist worship places located close to Varanasi in India. Though my interest in the place were kind of 'touristy', I found the ambience to be extremely calming and captured some wonderful images.
An interesting view of the temple, framed in tall palm trees:
Centuries old frescos and murals inside the temple depicting life of King Ashoka and Buddha:
The main altar with a gold plated statue of Lord Buddha:
A Stupa adjacent to the temple: Stupas are stone structures constructed over one of the relics (hair, nail etc) of Lord Buddha. These towering structures, once constructed, have no access from outside and keep the holy relic safe.
Parrots seem to have made the Stupa their home and I found this parrot perched right at the top of the Stupa
**Picturesque surroundings with lotus flowers and even Alligators (in an enclosed area)! **
A weavers establishment next to the temple where Silk Sari (Indian dress) is woven on Hand operated looms
