DISTANT WORLDS I

John & Anna

After a long day of work, John gets home. He gets out of his car and starts walking towards the entrance of the house. He goes to open the door but before he grabs the doorknob he looks at the sky and breathes heavily.
Then he opens the door slowly and gets in. He closes the door behind him and sees his wife Anna sitting down at the dining table.
Anna looks at him and smiles weakly. Her face expresses a grim look.
"How was your day sunshine", John says with half a smile.

"I've had better days", Anna says.

John makes his way to the chair next to Anna. He pulls out the chair slowly and sits down.
He grabs Anna's hands and stares at her.
"Darling, we have to do this today or our daughter will be...killed"

The Venovis Act was introduced in the year 2030 for the entire world after the population reached its "limit". In this world to have a child someone in the family has to sacrifice themselves because of the Venovis Act made by the government. If the child is born and no one decides to sacrifice themselves, the child will be killed.
