The fragility of life

in #life4 years ago

Another of the many teachings that this coronavirus crisis shows us is how vulnerable we are, a single virus was enough to put the entire system in check, that destroys the common misconception about the impregnability of modern society, as well as ends the false sense of security with which we live day by day. And it makes me think, as I have thought before, that this society it is not all-proof, it can simply collapse, someday, as Rome fell in the past, and all other civilizations. It is never too big to fall, there are millions of things that could go wrong and leave us in precarious conditions.

We are adrift. We live on the surface of the world and are exposed to all kinds of dangers and problems, we can protect ourselves from some but never from all, you cannot be in a position of one hundred percent security, and as I see it, we must always deal with a significant percentage risk.

And we are not only vulnerable as a society, we are also vulnerable as humans, life is fragile and delicate, we can lose it at any time, any day we can die and would that be so unexpected?, for most people it would be, I suppose, because we are used to living as if we were never going to die, as if we had all the time in the world, despite the multiple signs that tell us otherwise all the time. People die, and they leave their lives incomplete, it does not matter if you are young or old, if you have lived a good or a bad life, if you are healthy or ill, etc. Think of all the things that would be half done, the things that would remain unfinished and the things that would never take place, because we believe that we have all the time in the world, it always seems that we have enough, but perhaps not, perhaps not so.

And that is the end that we will all share someday, because everything has its end and everything in this world has to end sooner or later. I think the same about society in general and human civilization, it may seem very large now, but will it continue to exist in 100 years? 1,000 years in the future? 10,000? How about 1,000,000 of years ?, I don't think so, all the societies and civilizations of the past fell, perhaps ours is in a better state, or that would be good to think, but does that mean that we will cross the last border? does that mean that we will not have an end? I don't think so, because everything that begins has an end, it is natural law. Or at least that is how I see it.

But I'm not pessimistic about it, nor am I saddened by that, that's the way it is, and maybe we should accept it, we need to think about this to put things in perspective, set priorities, know how to finish what we do, and maybe learn to live life.
