The time thieves stole 20+ airbags in my neighborhood in one night.
Let's go back to February 2016 for this one. Personally I had never experienced a burglary or theft before... but there's always a first time for everything...
We were still enjoying the brand new feeling our new car gave us, the car was only a few months old. Here's a picture of my son revealing it at the dealer:
We live in a relatively quit neighborhood. It was a rainy and windy day this day in February 2016, nothing out of the ordinary. We went to sleep and the next morning I woke up early to go to work. I walked outside and I saw a pickup truck pass by with a Skoda Octavia on it. I didn't think anything of it. Just a neighbor with some bad luck with his car. I walked to the back of my own car but as I walked by I noticed that the hood seemed unlocked:
I still didn't think anything of it. I just thought it was strange and I thought that perhaps my wife did something because she last drove it and didn't notice that she accidentally popped it open. So I continued my walk to the back of my car because I wanted to put my bag in the trunk. I tried to open the trunk and normally it opens without me having to press a button on the car key but this time it didn't respond. I didn't think anything of it. I grabbed my car key and pressed the button to open the car. The light on the key blinked but the car did not respond. No blinking lights on the car, nothing. Still I didn't think much of it.
So I walked to the drivers side because I wanted to get in and I noticed that the door wasn't completely closed as well. Now I thought for sure my wife also forgot to close the door and left the car on or something overnight. I opened the door and when I almost sat in my seat it hit me... people broke into my car! This is the first thing I saw:
Some bastards had taken out the airbag from the steering wheel! I didn't even know it was a thing. I looked at the navigation system... that was still there! Then I looked at the passengers side and I saw this:
The DVD/CD system was hanging loose but I quickly figured out that they had taken out the airbags there as well. I looked at the rear seats and I noticed an iPad holder was missing and that they had laid what they had taken out on the seat:
I got out. Looked at the car from outside and there was no damage whatsoever. They somehow very professional bypassed the car alarm, when I popped the hood I noticed that they unplugged the power cables. When I called the agency to have my car picked up they told me that I was the 6th person calling that morning, all in the same street. When they came for my car later that morning they told me that they had hit about 10 to 15 cars in my neighborhood. All Volkswagen, Audi, Seat or Skoda.
These were professionals. They chose the best night to do it, weather-wise. They had the tools, the know-how to bypass alarms. They did it extremely quick and professional. All they took was airbags and some other stuff they found they could quickly grab.
Man... my brand new car was invaded by unknown people... the car hasn't exactly been the same ever since.
Feel free to upvote, comment and resteem. And, as always... keep up the good work!
I've never heard of people stealing airbags. That's crazy.
I didn't know it either! But apparently there's quite a market for airbags in Eastern Europe...
