Hello Steemians, Your friendly neighborhood humanitarian volunteer is here to share with you, life changing stories about children who undergone severe violent experiences, and abuse in various forms and different degrees/magnitude. We will be hearing out painful encounters that change their life into something awful, yet, they still cling to the ray of light of hope to be saved from such torment.

Home for the Girls is a shelter for children who are abandoned, neglected, trafficked, and abused.
The shelter is operated from various professionals such as nurse, psychologist, and social workers.
The children in the said shelter are still haunted by their traumatic experiences and still in need of professional help to normalize themselves.
One of the social worker in Home for the girls invited me to conduct and facilitate a psychosocial care support to the children. Without any second thought I accepted the invitation, timely my field work is already done so less worries for me. On that evening, I prepared all the needed materials and tools for the said activities. The following day I went directly to the shelter to official start my activity with the kids.
The kids in the center are just a few because some of them are attending their school. The remaining children are not yet enrolled in school and some are prohibit to go outside due to the magnitude of their cases. I started my activity with getting to know you. I introduce myself to the kids and they followed the same mechanics.

We talk about their dreams. We discuss about their life goals. We bespeak about their wishes. After our short talk and discussion we started our activity by handing over to them some visual materials where they will be expressing their thoughts and ideas. The visual materials represent of an art paper cut into a heart and hand carved into a heart shape form.

After writing down their thoughts and ideas. I helped them placed their visual materials in the board. We look at the output and one by one we discuss about their dreams. We talk about how wonderful their personal dreams and how amazing it would be when they reach it. At the same time we bespeak of how we can make it possible and what are the steps needed to make it for real not just for show or talk.

After the processing of the importance of dreams in their individual life. They come to terms when it comes to education and its value to their respective personal life. They come to sense, the significance of hope in their life and how it will move them in the near future and also during their tough times. We ended the session with clapping games and action songs. In order to reward their active participation and collective engagement. We provided them humble snacks.
Several kids sincerely thank us for all the support we have given to them.

They thank us for the time, attention, and care we’ve shared to them. They were grateful for the lessons and learning they have encountered during the activity. We were all touch by their gentle gestures. It made us conclude to come here and conduct another activity with them. One volunteer was touch by her engagement with the children. She will spend another day with the kids during her vacant time for she was reminded by her little sister who recently died. And being with the kids is an opportunity for her to share her love and care for his lost sibling.

The hardship we gone through in life are simple preparation of God’s mighty plan for us in the near future. He wanted us to be strong for the next challenges of our life. Difficult times are gentle reminder to us to seek his guidance and wisdom. His simple way of informing us that “his with us no matter what” just remember that call his name and pray from the heart.
