Living Zen in the Daily Dragon’s Den

in #life6 years ago

I love getting my homeopath's monthly newsletter - I'd like to share March's one with all of you.

March has rolled in and as the pace of our daily life picks up, people get busier and we tend to lose track of the meaning in each day. Yep, we all have those little habits that creep in and disturb our peace of mind. Checking emails after dinner, running lists through our minds as we lay in bed at night, setting reminders every 15 minutes to book necessary appointments. Trying to fit it all in- gym, work, loved ones, school-runs and household chores can seem like a Sisyphean task!  The first to go out the window are the moments in time that make life worthwhile. So maybe you are feeling a little overwhelmed, stressed, and/or exhausted? Here are just three helpful tips (because honestly, who has time for more?) to calm the pace and give yourself a little headspace!
1. NO Checking Emails Before 6AM or After 6PM! I myself am exceptionally naughty with this but the minor light stimulus of your phone screen is enough to disturb your melatonin production which disrupts sleep. Without good melatonin, we don’t make serotonin (our happy hormone) the next day.
2. Connect with loved ones over the evening meal- not just around the dinner table but involve everyone in the dinner preparation. In the modern age, household duties have become more of a shared responsibility. Get your life-partner and/or kiddlers involved in the dinner prep. This has a double benefit of providing quality time with the family as well as teaching a valuable life-lesson of how to cook (I leave it up to you to decide who needs the lesson the most). If you can stand the heat- get in the kitchen!

3. Take one portion of your weekend and make it a sacrosanct “taking a chill-pill session”. We lead very busy lives and with the majority of households and families having everyone working, we often lump all the household/personal upkeep necessities for the weekend. This coupled with trying to fit in a bit of socialising (because goodness we have earned it) means our weekends fly by without a moment to catch our breaths. I like to choose Sunday mornings for a quiet start and just make sure to have a relaxing moment/something fun planned for Sunday afternoon so as not to slip into the old Sunday blues (especially if you plan on watching Carte Blanche that evening- the Carte Blanche team are in fact the National spokespeople to announce your weekend is officially over).
My final thought to convey in this newsletter is to quote an excellent Zen Master- Deepak Chopra who says “we all need to recognise that everyone is doing their best from their state of consciousness”. This not only applies to other people, he means you too!  Have a break, have a kit-kat (dark chocolate of course) and have a great almost-weekend everybody!
Wishing you excellent health and vitality,
