I just came across this interesting statistic showing causes of death in America, comparing terrorist fatalities to other more common - yet unexpectedly common - forms...
I already know that even daring to mention that having such easy access to so many weapons is a threat to life will result in many pro-gun activists knee-jerking into a program of accusations and other defense mechanisms. So I won't do that. I do respect that many own guns out of a desire to feel protected and to have some way of defending themselves against a corrupt government. However, when the cultural programming often tries to claim that the real threat is from terrorist groups who 'hate our freedom' etc. yet when the stats show a completely different story, it's important to point out the situation and ask questions.
My present feeling is that there are some gun owners who honestly just want to be safe and to feel protected, but that there are others too who simply want to kill things/people and who will never be reasoned with and will never even think to look at solving the problems in society in a way that doesn't involve some form of force simply because they like force.
The reality though is that every gunshot that threatens us begins with thoughts and feelings inside the shooter, so if you really want to be safe, you need to get deep into psychology, spirit, soul and emotions - only then can you find real and lasting peace. Intimidation only ever comes back to bite you in the ass - whereas compassion and wisdom cover all the angles and stop problems before they start. There is no excuse for ignorance any more, we have access to the tools we need via the web - so it's up to us to create societies that are worth living for, not worth dying for.

I really don't put much weight in that first number.
What with the govern-cement, and their propaganda wing the MSM, everything is done by a terrorist.
So, we really don't have any non-biased statistics to pull that number from.
That said, having the ability to defend yourself is of great importance. And will be until society as a whole can move away from violent (win-lose) confrontation to peaceful (win-win) negotiation.
We have done so much to demonize bad guys. But we have done so little to actually give this group what they need. We have a competition based environment for jobs. And this will always leave out the lower IQ people. These lower IQ people are the majority of the petty burglars. What they need is a way to feel like they are a part of the society and that they can afford/procure the basics for living. (giving them money will not help)
When we do that, then we will start seeing a much more peaceful society.
Top point about IQ level being a HUGE factor in a walks of life...too much to go into here but it's a point people rarely dare to discuss and debate.
A return to nature is required to resolve these issues and that means a return to the free living that the wealthy cannot allow for it results in them losing their position at the tops of artificial hierarchies.. None the less, lose it they will.
It's not just the people with lower IQ that loose out. People suffering from mental illness / delusions are drawn further into dysfunctional ways of thinking by the system and media. This group of people are of course both rich and poor.
A raising of conscious awareness in all will create a much more peaceful and harmonious society.
When huge swathes of the population are mentally ill, guns provide the means to turn their inner delusions into an external hell for many.
Excellent post. I often use statistics shown in a different way to tempt people into looking at an issue from an alternative perspective and this an excellent use.
About the gun lobby, so powerful in US politics. I am sick of tired of hearing the 'people kill, not guns' argument as I truly believe this to be a logical fallacy and using this argument, looking at your statistics, they would probably conclude that also, 'people kill, not lawnmowers'. They would of course be correct, except to say that guns are designed for nothing else other than to kill people. Its their sole use.
It's also easier to kill with a gun than with a knife for instance (ready for the 'well we dont ban knives' bollocks), because psychologically, it's easier to shoot someone from any sort of distance as it is to get up close and personal and sink a knife into somebody, as well as adding that stab 100 people a second in a variety of ranges and angles as you can with a gun.
Shotguns are necessary for folks in the country and farmers to shoot vermin and predators but handguns and semi automatic weapons for fun ? FFS take up a new hobby, there are plenty to choose from.
Violence begets violence...the baddies have guns, the goodies get guns so the baddies get more and bigger guns etc etc etc....
Too long have the gun lobby used financial muscle to influence US politics. How many more kids do they want to die ? Wankers...A legally obtained AR15..seriously.

Americans seem to treat guns like toys these days. Nobody needs toys they just want them. If you removed all hand guns and semi & automatic weapons you would most likely not need a gun for self-defense like most other countries that have proper gun control. .
Thanks! The only real solution is to raise consciousness - it is the solution to virtually all problems on Earth. When this is done, these other issues relating to control and overpowering will cease.. The system is partially designed to keep everyone fighting each other and distracted so that they don't raise consciousness.. "Oh, but I'll change the system from the inside"... 20 years later... nothing changed because the thought prison from which the governmental system originated was not escaped from.
The numbers available of police or prisons injuring or killing innocent people or those in their care is way higher than "terrorists" and that has become normalized. Those are known numbers and questionable. Who tallies the fbi, cia, nsa etc deaths? Fisa? Anyone? Predators? Notice America has a really high rate of missing/disappeared. So the odd shootings one of which its not ok to read books or talk about: Sandyhook for example is nothing compared to the terror inflicted by those paid with tax dollars.

Unfortunately, whenever there is a group that controls the thoughts of it's members, that group will always be taken over, manipulated and the followers made to change their direction away from the one that was possibly originally divinely inspired. The solution to this is for us all to know how to connect directly to spirit and to the origin of creation - which some call God. Some religions have even taught that we are not good enough to connect to God directly and there is literally nothing more wrong than that.
Great truth here my friend. We are being programmed to believe that more die a year by the hands of another religion than putting you pants on.....I believe that is 11 a year. I shall resteem. Peace.

Agreed. The phrase "soft kill" permeates the net and yet there are so many examples of hard kill one cannot keep up. You are correct; they are trying to programme cultures and societies but we are rapidly waking up to their lies.....we will prevail. Peace.
It is very abashing for the USA .I am very shocked for Florida shooting.17 American dead.I watch this video from BBC,I cant explain in my language ,How is painful for me.
