"An 87 Year Old College Student named Rose"
On the first day of the school our teacher introduced himself and made us get to know someone we did not already know.
I got up to look around when a soft hand touched my shoulder. I turned to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming at me
with a smile that illuminated his whole being.
She said, "Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I am eighty-seven years old. Can I hug you? "
I laughed and responded enthusiastically: "Of course you can! And she gave me a giant squeeze.
"Why are you at university at such a young, innocent age? I asked.
She jokingly replied, "I am here to meet a rich husband, get married and have two children ..."
"No, seriously," I asked. I was curious that he might be motivated to take on this challenge at his age.
"I always dreamed of having a college education and now I get one! She told me.
After class, we went to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months, we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I am always fascinated listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.
During the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She liked to disguise herself and she reveled in the attention she got from other students. She lived.
At the end of the semester, we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I will never forget what she taught us. She was
introduced and reinforced on the podium.
As she began delivering her prepared speech, she dropped three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed, she leaned over the microphone and said simply, "I'm sorry, I'm so nervous. I gave beer for Lent and this whiskey kills me! I will not return my speech for so let me just say
you know what I know.
As we laughed she cleared her throat and started, "We do not stop playing because we are old; we are getting older because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and succeeding. You must laugh and find humor every day.
You must have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.
We have so many people walking around who are dead and do not even know it! There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up.
If you are nineteen and stay in bed for a year and do not do a productive thing, you reach the age of twenty.
If I'm eighty-seven and stay in bed for a year and never do what I'm going to turn eighty eight.
Everyone can get old. It does not take talent or ability. The idea is to grow by always finding the possibility of change.
Do not regret.
Older people generally have no regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who are afraid of death are those
with regrets ".
She concluded her speech by courageously singing "The Rose".
She challenged all of us to study the words and live them in our daily lives.
At the end of the year Rose graduated from college, she had started all these years ago. A week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep.
More than two thousand students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught for example that he is
never too late to be all you possibly can. When you have finished reading this, please send this word peaceful advice to your friends and family, they will really enjoy it!
These words were passed along in memory of ROSE.
REMEMBER, Aging is mandatory. GROW IS
OPTIONAL.
We live from what we get, we make a life by what we give.
