Constant improvement is a principle that you will frequently observe in all world-class achievers. The Japanese have a very musical word to express it, they call it "Kaizen".

This means that in order to succeed we must be better today than we were yesterday and tomorrow superior to what we are today. This is a principle of life, just as "water that stagnates rots", "muscle that is not used atrophies", so make love, JAJAJA.

Returning to seriousness, if you are a university professional you know that if you do not update yourself it is as if you had retired. Life is a constant change, what served yesterday, and today in certain cases is outdated. For that reason constant improvement is an unavoidable requirement.

Without constant improvement, the wheels of progress will stop, and worse, the speed with which those who do will leave behind years or centuries behind, an advantage that is difficult to overcome. Note how problematic it has been to equate European countries that belonged to the "iron curtain" with neighboring countries that had a more suitable system for the current times.
