A fire on a hillside in Ecuador that says FU to the government

in #life7 years ago (edited)

In Ecuador, it's illegal for farmers to burn their waste in the fields.

So, I'm sitting on my porch at around midnight and suddenly the hillside across from me erupts in flames.

The farmer simply does his burns at night to avoid police/government interference.

Of course, the farmer probably wouldn't need to resort to these tactics if the government didn't charge such incredibly high tariffs on all of the agricultural equipment and materials he needs to make a good living.

But that's government for ya. Always taxing the means of production, shooting themselves in the foot.

What would we ever do without government? ;)

This footage was taken a few years ago in Vilcabamba, Ecuador.

Hi @trevorlyman,

Fire is good for the ground anyway, it fertilises the soil :)
