Amazon vs Walmart: Abundance vs Scarcity

in #life7 years ago

Found this article fascinating, as Robert Kyosaki - Rich Dad Poor Dad Author, gives his perspective of Amazon's recent acquisition of Whole Foods. Amazon continues to expand its opportunities as Bezos sees the world from an abundance perspective. Who knew that when Amazon started selling books, that today they are poised to transform the grocery business. Their focus will be on value creation (ie. lower costs) and using Artificial Intelligence to supply what a neighborhood needs. Walmarts approach has been more of a scarcity approach, where it is constantly playing catchup or putting up barriers / limitations. Walmart bought Jet.com and now allows a customer dissappointed with a Walmart.com purchase to return it to their local store! Some stores are experimenting with employees delivering Walmart.com purchares to customers on their way home from work. In addition, Walmart is telling suppliers to migrate from Amazon Cloud services to Microsoft Azure Cloud services. This an epic battle to win the hearts, minds, and dollars of the consumer. Who will in this battle? What are you thoughts? As a consumer, I am excited to see more opportunities. As an investor, being short Walmart/Costco and long Amazon has paid handsomely since the Amazon/Whole Foods anouncement.
