RE-UP? YOU'RE CRAZY...

Many of you have reached that time in your military career where you have to make a choice to re-up or get out of the military. I encourage you to think deeply about making the right choice. I recently decided on staying in and doing another 3 years. In this blog, I'll give you some reasons why I think you should consider staying in for at least another contract. I at least want you to examine your options before making a rash decision.

RE-UP? YOU'RE OUT OF YOU'RE MIND

3 reasons why you should re-enlist

  1. You have no plans post-military. It's easy to believe that once you get out everything will be easier, but truthfully it's the contrary. Leaving the military without an exit strategy is just as stupid as trying to fire an M4 without lubricating it first. You may think it will fire, but ultimately it will fail on you because you didn't properly lubricate it. Same goes with leaving the military. If you do not set yourself up for success first; you will fail. Consider applying for colleges BEFORE you get out. Also apply for a job months before your ETS date. This will in turn give you better peace of mind on getting out.

  2. You're supporting someone else. This one seems obvious, but is often over-looked by many servicemen. If have dependents like a wife, husband, or children. You should definitely consider staying in, especially if you have no plans on following number 1 on the list. It's gonna be twice as hard to support a family when you don't have BAH or BAS coming in to support them. Keep this in mind.

  3. You hate the military This one is definitely one that's more personal. I encourage you to look deeply and consider if you truly hate your job or are just pretending to hate it. I guarantee jobs in the "outside world" aren't all fine and dandy. Don't forget about the 30 days of guaranteed paid vacation and the job security that comes with the military. Most civilian jobs cannot compete with this. Just food for thought.

Ultimately its up to you to decide whether or not to reenlist. All I'm saying is to think long and hard before making a decision you regret. Many people ETS every year and have amazing jobs and lives. Same with military "lifers". Do what you believe will be fulfilling for you.
