Taking Responsibility For Your Happiness

Taking responsibility for your own happiness is truly liberating. Firstly, to understand that happiness doesn't come from outside of yourself, it's an oversimplification. To be truly happy is ultimately a choice and the first gate to happiness is gratitude. We are what we make ourselves out to be and therefore, when we take responsibility for our own happiness, we open ourselves up to being who we are.


A quote by Alfred Lord Tennyson sums it up perfectly. "Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it now." There's no doubt that we can achieve great things in our lives, but the happiness comes when we take small steps first. We have a very simple system: we get ourselves motivated. We must get ourselves motivated in order to be in control of our own happiness.

So, how does taking responsibility for our happiness differ from getting a promotion? Often we take things for granted and wait for the right opportunities to come around again. What many people fail to realize is that there is no such thing as a passive form of happiness. You see, in order to be happy, you have to actively pursue your goals and be in control of them.

On the other hand, if you are someone who passively goes about his/her life without much effort, then you will never experience true success. Remember, success doesn't just happen. It must be worked for. When you are in control of your happiness, you are able to focus more on the things that make you feel happy and less on the negative aspects. This is what is known as happiness hacking.

Sometimes you will hear the term "happiness hacking". What this does is confuse us. Happiness is something that we all desire in one way or another. In this case, we are speaking about reaching your own goals. Pursuing your goals is part of happiness hacking.

While on the subject of blame, it would seem that blame has everything to do with happiness. When we take the blame for something, we are not being responsible. When we put the blame on others, we are being responsible. It seems that when we are able to blame somebody else for our own lack of happiness, then it becomes very easy to blame them for the lack of happiness in our lives.

Now, when you are taking responsibility for your happiness, then you are in charge of it. You control it, and nobody else can take it away from you. Once you have control of it, then you will know exactly what to do to achieve it. You will be on the right track and nobody else will get in your way. Once you have control of your happiness, you will be happier and achieve more success.

People often mistake happiness hacking with being too self-absorbed. But this is actually not true. Happiness hacking actually empowers you and encourages you to be more proactive in achieving your goals and dreams.

The thing about blame is that it involves a mental process that goes like this. First, you complain, and then you blame somebody else. You might even go so far as to say things about the event or situation in question. By the time you are done complaining, the blame game has started! And if you are in a healthy state of mind, it never ends.

This kind of blame and anger has nothing to do with your personal sense of worth and certainly has nothing to do with your happiness. You may feel bad about yourself for a minute or two. But if you continue to blame others, eventually you will blame them for all of your problems in life. This will only create more complications in your life.

Taking responsibility for your happiness is a great first step towards empowerment. You will learn to become more proactive in making changes in your life. And no matter what happens, you will learn to stop blaming others and look more inwardly. This is a sure fire formula for success!


Taking responsibility for your own happiness means that you can take some action immediately. Instead of just dwelling on what went wrong or who could have done better, take some action! Do something about it - right now! It is impossible to dwell on negatives in your life when you are the one responsible for it. Just try to focus on what can be improved, and you will succeed.
