Must a relationship begin by seeing a vision or having a dream?
God leads us in different ways. For you to have the correct leading as to who you should get engaged to, you must have developed a sense of hearing from God. God knows each one of us well and He wants to have a relationship with us by which He leads us on daily basis. He wants us to learn His voice and know how to hear from Him.
“The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep, the watchman opens the gat for him and the sheep listens to His voice, He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out .... and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.” (John 10:24 NIV)
To know God’s voice needs practice. Many time we wait until we have a very important decision to make before we ask Go’d view, whereas He wants to lead us daily. So in knowing whom to marry we should fall back to the methods that God has been using in speaking to us as individuals. Consider the following guidelines:
a) When does the voice speak to you? If you hear a voice giving you approval when you are in the midst of a lustful relationship then that voice is not from God. Crosscheck that voice with the numerous ways that God had spoken to others on similar issues in the Bible.
b) is the voice gentle or Compulsive? The devil uses compulsion;whereas the Holy Spirit is gentle and peaceful. If the voice is compulsive and pressurizing, then it is most likely not of Hod. God is not in the whirlwind or in the storm as in Elijah’s case but in the still small voice. After the fire came a gentle whisper. 1 Kings 19:1
c) Do you have God’s peace within your soul? Peace is something that the devil cannot counterfeit because he goes about restlessly, so he cannot give peace. Peace I leave with you, my pea give to you, I do not give it to you as the world gives, do not let your heart be troubled...” John 14:27. “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace, in this world you will have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33. If you are uneasy with the leading you have, cross check again, and if you are ill at ease, then do not go ahead with it.
