Manifest Your Own Reality Through Emotional Intelligence

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Emotions usually get a bad reputation. They are oftentimes the catalysts for being stuck in the past with depression, or anxious about what the future holds. It’s natural to replay certain life events, and precog future ones. But what if honing in on our emotions and deploying them in an efficient way is the key driving force behind most difficult situations?

What is Emotional Intelligence(EQ)?

Unlike IQ which is static and solidified by our early 20’s, EQ is dynamic and falls along a continuum. Emotional intelligence can be learned. As we learn more about ourselves through self awareness, self management, social awareness, and social management we are better able to recognize other people’s emotions. Being able to recognize and tap into other people's emotions allows you to affirm yourself in others, and essentially mold the perception of reality that you want to create.

1.) Self Awareness (What I see - With Me)

Emotional self awareness it the ability to read and understand emotions and recognize their impact on relationships. Most people have an "ideal" version of themselves that they believe they project on others. However, this ideal version of ourselves is usually a misrepresentation of our true selves. We've all got our "fake" co-workers, friends, and family members.

When people lack self awareness, they lack self confidence and accurate self assessment. The lack of self awareness usually manifests into denial, being defensive, and making excuses in an attempt to defuse your negative emotion(s).

You can improve your self awareness by meditating, taking psychometric tests, and embracing your intuition, or 'gut feeling.' By deploying these practices, we are essentially learning more about ourselves through regulating our own emotional world.

2.) Self Management (What I Do - With Me)

Self management is the act of being/practicing: self control, integrity, conscientiousness, adaptability, and initiative. Practicing self control allows you to keep disruptive impulses under control, instead of simply being reactive towards certain situations. Having integrity allows you deploy and monitor your own moral compass, which is the tool that gets you through your toughest decisions.

You are conscientious when you are able to manage yourself and your responsibilities in an efficient and effective way. This ties back into entering your flow state, which is synonymous with being mindful and manifesting others' behaviors through your own actions.

3.) Social Awareness(What I See - With Others)

Social awareness combines elements of empathy, organizational awareness, and service orientation. Empathy is the skill at sensing other people's emotions, understanding their perspective, and taking an active interest in their concerns.

In the information age in which we acquire more and more data everyday, our ability to actually connect with other people suffers. We lose sight of what matters to other people, and as a result, we misunderstand our own needs and desires. Having organizational awareness is the ability to read the currents of organizational life, build decision networks, and navigate the internal politics within that organization. Organizational awareness is similar to tribe awareness. As you acquire social awareness, you are better able to recognize and act on the needs of others in a way that aligns with your own.

4.) Social Management (What I do - With Others)

You manage your social network best when you practice: having influence, communication, conflict management, and the development of others. These skills are best practiced when you are attuned to your own emotions. Always be fully aware and connected to your emotions.
