Sorry to be unclear. Gender is synonymous with biological sex. Culture cannot change biology. Surgery and clothing cannot change gender. Even gene therapy, if anyone was ever insane enough to attempt it, cannot change gender.
I have the right to call Bruce Jenner "sir" if I want to. Actually, here in Canada, I don't anymore... Isn't that nice..
I'm going to make a whole post about this because it inspired some interesting thoughts. Hope you don't mind :D
