Why You've Got to Stop Listening to Motivational Speeches/Stories

Many people love watching video clips where famous people share their stories of success. They share these videos and caption them with a quotation from the speech or with their own insights, but do these speeches really help them? Looking at my timeline on Facebook filled with all these shared "inspirational" videos, I could tell you all that it is more like a joining in a bandwagon of people wanting to have a say on everything (e.g. "oh I feel you"). That's what social media has turned people to be or at least that's what people has turned social media into--a space for having an opinion on everything.

I have always hated these motivational speeches that I literally unfriend people on Facebook who constantly share these stuff. I believe that they are a negative force on my timeline and they need to be removed. Why? Because they contribute to the undesirable developed habit of people making excuses for their laziness just because certain "successful" speaker has made it despite a similar "downfall" as if laziness is classified as such. If you would all analyze the whole thing, it is not the words from the speakers these people try to hold on to nor the story but rather the fact that it could be a valid reason to not do anything at the present as it is bound to make sense in the future---SERIOUSLY? The only future outcome it may result to is a long-term lack of progress in their lives.

You might say, "That's too harsh to say, who are you to judge people's opinions and way of coping." Coping with what exactly? Slacking off? "It could be depression!" and you think it's helpful to tolerate the condition's power over the person we assume to be experiencing it, also because it is the politically correct way of handling it? People no longer need to have their choices further justified especially if they are mostly wrong ones. Wrong decisions happen but it doesn't mean that living with it also means telling another person who ends up doing it "it's okay". There is a fine line between that "it's okay" and "how could you be so stupid?", and that is what people should learn using instead of settling for a socially constructed false decency of saying it's always going to be alright when to be honest, it is not how the world works.

Life is a series of unexpected events that turns us into different versions of ourselves, and this reality is the only thing we should instill in our heads that are easily manipulated by influences coming from people who claim to be motivational but actually just try to say that their case is always going to be the same with everyone's. The world is cruel, and that is the harsh reality. You slack off one day and you miss a lot of opportunities, because this life we live in is nothing like those in the movies where you are going to magically become someone right just by staying indoors and wishing or praying for a miracle to come through.

Take famous writers for example who did not really want the fame or that so-called success and source of inspiration of others. Some of them just wrote for their own reasons, to share their thoughts, yet people were quick to turn those mere delight of expression into stories to serve as models of success the young ones should look up to. Why? Because maybe a group of people woke up one day and decided to fool themselves with the idea that others' success is a pattern for their own plans of being accomplished. Now it turns out, everyone wants to be just someone else who is successful not their own person who desires and works towards success. You see it on social media where people kiss famous Instagram whores' ass and try to use their status to color their own when looking at it, these popular people on Instagram actually ruined the concept of standard for certain careers like modeling, singing, etc., yet here they try so hard to serve as role models or sources of inspiration.

You see how they caption their photos with motivational quotations people comment on with "this 👆👆" like a gospel sent to the world for the first time. People don't see the point in all this--these social media "role models" are a mere product of chance and their own doing of worshiping them so hard; no inspirational quotation from any of these people many look up to could quicken one's process of reaching his or her goal, for only that person has the sole power to turn himself/herself into that something based on their own standards. Hell, one day I woke up and YouTubers have movies and albums already, because they chose to live with their own tasteless lives and capitalized on these people who look up to them but never do anything to work on their own shit.

A lot of these famous people will say a lot of things too, and even say "let's help each other', but as funny as it might be, this is the only real deal you have to wrap your mind to:

Wow! You said it there!! Having worked with loads of people who say that they want success/the promotion/the bigger salary but none of them are prepared to do the work, put in the effort I have to agree with you.

Yeah, people have become lazy labeling such condition with all sorts of excuses and serious conditions. What a shame

The worst personal development pieces only give the illusion of teaching you something. Sometimes they only tell you something you already know & confirm your existing biases. They're no different from porn, without the orgasm in the end. If we take this further, quite a lot of mainstream media & even academic work, particular in the humanities, are also like this.
