Keep your Funds Safe Guys!! I Got Hacked :(

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Somebody hacked my email and Bittrex account and withdrew $150 worth of BTC and ETH. It may not seem like much to you, but to me, that was enough to set me back quite a bit. sighs..... that hacker could jump off a cliff

oh, sad to know that you lost your money. Thanks a lot for making us aware and careful about keeping our cryptocurrencies on online exchanges. Thanks for sharing. May Allah compensate you for your loss and reward you for trying to help others.

If you're tech-savvy make a paper wallet for every hundred bucks. Might be a zillion-dollar bill one day! If you are not, drop the next hundred into a hardware wallet. My Trezor is off-line and has a very slim plane of attack. Also, google "plane of attack" if you do not know the term. I use Shapeshift.io and my Trezor mostly, I used to use third parties but I do not leave much on an exchange. If I screw up my Trezor, Paper wallet, or silver stash, I at least know who too blame. I keep a few bucks on Coinbase for the credit card feature, a few bucks in my Mycelium sometimes, and keep my real money in my brain....

Im fairly new to cryptocurrency and im still trying to understand wallets and keys and how they work. Thats why I kept my money on the exchange because I was still learning, I've read about paper wallets and tried to figure them out but I didnt want to risk losing my funds by making a mistake with them. Lol I was trying to avoid losing my funds but it resulted in exactly that. Oh the irony... Next time ill put in the time to learn more about securing my funds.

You can print a paper wallet from most wallets. Hardware is just easier for me. I was tempter to buy a second Trezor and keep it unboxed in case I lost, or destroyed, the first.

Keys are the key here! Wallets just hold the keys and have some user-friendly features. Own your own keys, and only pull them out when you need them. Admittedly I have different funds in different places. Fast learning curve, losing a few bucks....happened to me for like 8 dollars....that 8= about what you lost today. Early bitcoiners lost 100 or more bitcoins regularly (Less than 8 dollars for them).

enable two step verification next time . Even if the hacker has your password he can't get access without that two step verification. It's really worth it .

yeah I never bothered to use two step verification before, I didn't think it would be necessary until now. This is a mistake i can learn from

Very true

I am so sorry to hear about it. I know the feeling. My amazon got hacked. I got it back because the password cannot be changed. I then secured it with two way verification.
