Flashback

A lifetime ago, I was a competitive ballroom dancer.

I competed for about 5 years, mostly on a college team. I learned every dance, both standard and international styles: Rhumba, Chacha, Samba, Jive, Swing, Foxtrot, Waltz, Quickstep . And the fun dances: Hustle, West Coast Swing, Argentine Tango.
I was, for a moment in time, the National Collegiate Argentine Tango Champion. God that was fun.

I think fondly about those times, pre-baby, when I spent 6 nights a week in 4-inch heels dancing and dancing and dancing. I was in such good shape. I was in such control of my body.

Do I love doing anything now as much as I loved ballroom dancing? I think about doing anything for as many hours a week as I did Ballroom Dancing and I just get tired and want to take a nap.
I haven't put on a pair of Ballroom shoes in ten years, but I still track every song I hear by what dance I could do to it.
I watch Ohio Star Ball whenever it's on PBS. I dream about taking a job at the local dance studio. It's like an alternate identity.
