Rishikesh - The City Of Gods, a Holy Place to visit

Rishikesh is very well known as the ‘Abode of Sages’, ‘Land of Gods’ as well as ‘The City of Gods’ . Rishikesh is a Devine Town situated 25 Kms towards North-West from The Holy City Haridwar ( Blog on Haridwar coming soon) at the junction of Chandrabhaga and The Holy River Ganga. ( Blog on Ganga coming soon).


The city/town Rishikesh is the Centre for Char Dham Yatra/Trip ( More about it coming soon ) and is an excellent stop for those ambitious in Meditation, Yoga, Reiki and Adventure such as River Rafting, Trekking, Rock Climbing, Kayaking etc.

Rishikesh is located above approx. 1170 Feet above the sea level


Sights to See 


Laxman Jhoola/Jhula:  Jhula means suspension Bridge

This is where I live , it is situated 6 Kms upstreams from Rishikesh. It is famous for a Suspension Bridge which joins the two ends of the two District Tehri and Pauri. The Bridge is built across the Holy River Ganga on the Old Path to the Holy Place of Badrinath and Kedarnath which is the landmark of Rishikesh.

Ram Jhula/Jhoola:

It is located 2 Kms downstream from Laxman Jhula and is known for it’s Suspension Bridge which joins the Swarg Ashram with Shivananda Ashram. Many other Ashrams are located near Ram Jhula/Jhoola and I will cover them separately in my other blogs


Temples to Visit

Some Major temples in Rishikesh are Pushkar Temple, Lakshman Temple, Shatrughan Temple, Venkateshwar Temple, Bharat Mandir, Raghunath Temple and Chandra Mauleshwaran Temple More info of each temple would be covered in my upcoming blog so make you Hit that Follow Button.


Reiki , Meditation & Yoga Centres as well as Ashrams

Abhed Naturo Care and Meditation Trust were the ones who introduced Reiki and is one of the best places for Meditation. More info in my other blog.


Some major Ashrams are Gita Bhawan, Mahesh Yogi Ashram also known as the  Beatles Ashram ( Will be covered in the upcoming Blog) , Shivanand Ashram, Swarg Ashram, Parmath Niketan, Ved Niketan and many more.


Chilla

Chilla Wildlife Sanctuary , a unit of Rajaji National Park is a Paradise for Animal Observers, it is located 8 Kms from Haridwar and 21 Kms from Rishikesh & is situated on the banks of the Holy River Ganga. The Animal include Peacocks, Elephants, Fox, Spotted Dear, Stag Deer, Porcupine, Neelgai, Wild Bear and many more.

Besides we can see many migratory birds on the Holy River Ganga.

Neelkanth Mahadev: Blue Neck of Lord Shiva ( Will cover in more detail in a separate Blog)

A Great number of devotees visit Neelkanth Mahadev throughout the whole year. It is located on the peak of the mountain across The Holy River Ganga, approx 31 Kms upstream from Rishikesh.

As per the Mythology, Neelkanth Mahadev is the place where Lord Shiva drank the poison which was produced during the ‘ Sagar Mantham’ more info in my upcoming blog.


Mussoorie: 

It is one the most visited Hill Stations of India. It is a scenic drive to the Beautiful Hill Station, which very well known as the Queen of the Hills and is situated 73 Kms from Rishikesh.

Devprayag

It is the sacred assemblage of the Two Holy Rivers Bhagirathi and Alaknanda. When these two streams are met then the Holy River Ganga is formed. ( More about this in my special blog on the Holy River Ganga)

It is located approx. 1550 Feet above the sea level. It is 73 kms upstream from Rishikesh.


How to Reach Rishikesh?


Via Air: Jolly Grant is the closest Airport located 21 Kms away from Rishikesh.


Via Rail: Rishikesh is well linked by Railway lines with Major Destinations of India.
