Long Distance Relationships / Is that a good idea?

Love

Love is the unique feeling that many of us experience in some parts of our lives. Love doesn't know the meaning of border even though there are sharp borders between some countries nowadays. Long distance relationships have lots of advantages and disadvantages. I was kinda involved in a long distance relationship. Better to say , I was at the edge of this kind of relationship , but I couldn't manage to start it as my partner didn't like this idea. I remember how good everything was during my stay in Poland for Erasmus. Like many other people, I had chances of have affairs.

I remember my partner's answer very well when she told me that she finds long distance relationships all ridiculous. Maybe, that answer was only for me, because she might have had relationships with people from other nationalities. To be honest, I still find her decision meaningful as there are serious consequences of long distance relationship. It may not be easy to handle all the things that long distance relationship might bring into our lives, especially If you live far away from your partner.

Trust

This is one of the most important key words in long distance relationships. it doesn't matter how often you talk on skype or mobile phone. It might be really hard to trust your partner. If you try to express your doubts about your partner, your partner might get totally mad which may ruin your relationship more. There must be a great bond of love and trust between partners which will help them to maintain this difficult relationship as long as possible.

Doubt or trust is not the only thing that forces this kind of relationship. Cultural differences and families are other obstacles. If there are huge differences between cultures and life style of your families, there might be some serious problems even though partners love eachother a lot. To make it more clear, Imagine two families from Finland and Iran talking about relationship of their children. These countries have their unique and special cultures. If families are not open-minded enough, the relationship may not last for a long time. It is just an example, of course.

Distance

If partners love eachother , they always want to touch and feel eachother which is another obstacle in long distance relationships. You may not meet your partner as often as you do with your possible partner in your city. It is possible to travel in a few hours to another city or country. However, If you live in a country like Turkey which is my own country, we need visa to visit many countries in all continents and it is really a big issue to get it!

There are also many positive things about this kind of relationship. Cultural differences are usually good which can bring lots of diversity into your lives. Imagine your future children talking more than one language. The food that is cooked at home will always have a different taste and traces of cultures. You can broaden yourself in many different dimensions just like your partner who experiences the same things.

Final Note

Personally, I know some friends who have experienced long distance relationships. I can say that they are happy with their lives now. One of them is even married at the moment. He is usually happy, but facing with financial problems as he can't do his own job in his new life. When I think about myself, I guess it would be hard for me to do it as well. It seems really tough to maintain it when there are long distances.
