International Miners' Day / The day of the most hardworking people!
Miners
Today is International Miners' Day. Mining is one of the most difficul jobs to survive economically. There are lots of factors which make this job really difficult and one of them is the risk of losing your life as there are many mining accidents every year. Personally, I don't like calling them as accidents, they are certainly real tragedies. As a teacher, I have to teach English to my students in a comfortable atmosphere, it is a good way to earn money but not all people are as lucky as me. Some people like miners have to be under ground for many hours just to bring some money to their families who are waiting for them worryingly. Unfortunately, they don't have many rights especially in my country which is really sad.
Soma
Soma is a small town in the city of Manisa, Turkey. You may wonder why I am mentioning the name of the town here. Soma is one of the main centers for coal mining in Turkey. There are lots of coal mining areas and companies in the town. On 13 May 2014, a big tragedy happened in Soma. 301 people died in the disaster because of the fire in the mining area. As many of them couldn't get to the exit of the mining area, they were trapped, so the result was a real disaster. It was really shocking for Turkish people as the number of people who lost lives was really high. This incident is the most tragic accident in the history of Turkey.
In my opinion, their working conditions should be improved in all countries. Mining tragedies happen in different parts of the world. People have to go under the ground as many of them don't have any other options to earn their lives. I think, we should think twice every time we complain about our jobs and remember the miners who are constantly working to get the mine out to meet our needs. Thanks for reading my post.
