Organizing My Life…One Hour at a Time…

I don’t know why it is, but I feel like I am in a constant state of trying to organize something.

I’m the type of person who can’t seem to get anything accomplished unless everything in my home is put away and the floors and counters are scoured to a shine. I can’t bring myself to sit down to write a blog post unless my desk area is completely organized, until I’ve cleaned not just my workspace for my crafts, but the ENTIRE house. I should probably also add that I’m a list-maker. I make lists for everything–before I start cleaning, I make a list of exactly what I need to clean; before I start working, I have to make a list of exactly everything I need to do in order to complete the task. Some people might look at this and thing, well, at least you’re organized. The problem is I spend so much time writing and revising my lists, that by the time I’m ready to actually carry out the tasks that are listed on those lists, I’ve burnt out. Or it’s time to play with Kate or give her a bath. Or I need to cook dinner.

I am a stay at home mom. The main reason I quit my job was so that I could spend as much quality time as possible with Katy. This, however, does not mean I have the luxury of spending every moment of every day in an eternal state of playtime. I have what seems like a never ending list of housework to do every day, plus I am trying to flex my “entrepreneurial muscles” and run a home-based business. During the last year that I’ve been home, I’ve accepted the fact that I have to plan my schedule according to Kate’s schedule. Luckily she’s a good sleeper, so nap time is when I am able to complete the majority of the day’s tasks. One problem I regularly face is deciding which tasks to tackle: do I shower, or do I clean the shower? Do I fold clothes or work? I could (and sometimes do) work on things while Kate is awake, but she’s an active 4 years old toddler who can’t exactly be left to entertain herself while I work on chores.

One of the things I’m going to try to accomplish with my blog is to set (and reach) a goal to finally get myself organized in a way in which I can be productive in all of my responsibilities–this includes running my household and running my work. I’m going to try to make it a priority to take one area of my life at a time and give myself little “mini-makeovers” in order to slowly eliminate the chaos that I seem to create for myself by trying to do everything at once.

The first step I’ve taken in this attempt is to make a (you guessed it) list of everything I’d like to accomplish on a daily basis. These tasks include:

List of things I’d like to be able to accomplish on a daily basis:

  • Household chores
  • Preventing laundry from becoming unmanageable
  • Exercise
  • Write blog posts
  • Play with Kate (take her to the park, story time, etc.)
  • Shower (You would be surprised how easily this can get put on the back burner.)
  • Eat (See previous item.)

I know that it’s going to take some time and practice to find my stride and become acclimated to my new schedule, but I definitely need to get started sooner than later. As I’m a visual person, I printed out a blank weekly calendar and penciled in a rough schedule of tasks that I’m going to try to follow.

Clearly I won’t be able to stick to this stringent of a schedule, but at least I now have something to shoot for.

Hopefully within a few weeks my new schedule will become second nature, and I’ll begin to see increased productivity while being able to truly enjoy every minute of the time I spend with Kate, because no matter what, being a mommy is the most important job I have.

@tanata I read your entire blog it was amazing, what I concluded from your post, that you are a well manager who want to do all her work well in time and with the entire satisfaction and due course of time.

This is the good habit what you have.

You may know the definition of a good manager,
A manager is the person who achieve their goals and objectives within the available resources, time and cost by available work force within the specified time limit.

So by this definition you are a successful manager. keep it up...

You are lucky that your Kate is more sleepy, otherwise you must give more time to her..

Be happy always... Thanks for sharing your experience.

Thank you. Being a manager is very useful for life, you are absolutely right) Thanks for the wonderful comment!

You are welcome @tanata...

Lucky for kate she got a mom who quited her job for her wellbeing, These cases are quite rear these days, maybe its because of the expenses moms too leave for work and leave their child in some kind of a school were babies are kept, I don't think they give enough care to them at an individual level, these things can be only done by moms, also my sister hates messy things around the home, most of the time I create mess and she is the one who organises it, its within the genes of women or girls I think

Thanks for the kind words! I hope I'm doing it right)

Lol !! I'm the same kind of person who would see that every thing in my room is set Organized . Thanks to steemit , it made me developing my planning skills . I'm now able to manage my classes , playing cricket , writing blogs and watching movies but it goes on a rough timings . Well I'm not the perfect organizer as you and you inspired me to create a schedule .

You have a wonderful activity) Steemit helped me to become better, it's true. I wish you the best)

Say hello, sweetheart.
I am a psychologist and for the description of your symptoms, it is clearly toc (obsessive compulsive disorder). The toc that you have makes you lose a lot of time with questions related to the organization and possibly, if everything is not millimetrically organized, it causes a lot of emotional suffering, right ???
This suffering with THOUGHT that things need to be all neat can generate anxiety and depression. If there is depression, you can get her to be secluded at home and this will increase her symptoms further because of isolation and sadness.
Please, let me think straight about what I said, because this is something serious.
If you notice that this is the case, a professional help would be very welcome.
If I said something that hurt her, tell me and I'll delete the post.
Improvements, pretty girl.
You are very young and beautiful. Do not be let down !!!
Good evening, and I'm sorry for my English. I am Brazilian and I do not hold so much the English language.

Thank you very much for your comment! You have definitely established my diagnosis. This is really true. I'm a perfectionist. In addition, I have obsessive-compulsive disorder. And my neurologist diagnoses an anxiety-depressive disorder. I am currently being treated and hopefully will cope with it! I thank you for your attention to my problems! I will follow your blog!

As soon as you spoke the symptoms, I noticed their general picture. Little Tanata. I hope that with time and care, you will improve. If you want to talk or question any of my wisdom, you can talk to me. I will gladly help you!
Thanks for following the blog too.
Good Morning!!!

@tanata you are a beautiful lady of very prestigious thoughts.
I have read your blog and watched pictures you shared.
Everything seems to be very much organised and well managed.i too love the people who take much care of their surrondings before going to work.

That's good my dear. You have to be organized because you have a child. You have to be organized for your child and lucky is the little girl who have you as her mom. It's a great sacrifice to leave a job for anyone but if you do it for your girl ,it's what you have to do. Anyways all the best for your family. Blessings

Thank you for the kind words!

Beautiful girl! And capable mother! Me also always happened like you! I have to think what i have to cook, and always am planing the work which i have to do everyday.

Because you are a wonderful person and an excellent mother! Thank you)

It is extremely crucial to set a agenda to organize your life and do all of the work in a timely manner, but you have to have time for recreation, enjoy your life with your sweet family. God bless you

Wow!
You really are organized..
My list only includes the last two things ,eat and shower :p

This is also good :)

I don't have a kid so I can afford this :)
