How You Easily Become What You Hate
Are you thinking, "No way! there's just no way I can become the very thing I hate"? Hold on right there.
We all hate lies right? Nobody likes being deceived. But we've had to tell a lie on some occasions or just leave out the truth. I got you on that one.
We've seen or heard of scenarios where someone who always talks about how much he hates cheating goes ahead to cheat because he was cheated on.
In Nigerian universities, most of our lecturers make things difficult for us. Why? Things were not easy for them either. One's favorite quote is you must enter into the kingdom of God (a good degree) through many tribulations.
I was out with a friend who when he found out that he had been given counterfeit notes, he swore that he must spend it.
oh, and my brother refused to share his icecream with me (stingy boy) and I refused to share my wifi hotspot too.
I could go on and on. Do you see how becomes a never ending cycle? What do we do?
If you're suggesting things like removing the bitterness in our hearts, forgiving the people who hurt us and being more loving, that's a good one. At least we won't be controlled by people's actions. But there's another suggestion.
It's about redirecting our focus.
I mean, How about we just focus on becoming the kind of person we want to be instead of what we do not want to be? It works like this: we naturally tend to move in the direction of our focus. There's a popular saying "you become what you think". Our thoughts form our actions and our actions form our habits. If we focus on that behaviour we hate, we're just going to unconsciously become what we hate.
Bottom line: Let's just focus on who we want to be and work on ourselves
