After the world famous Darjeeling tea, now they are adding Darjeeling Coffee.
The cultivation has started in the hills. This coffee is cultivating by organic method in the land of Cinchona Plantation. But still this coffee has not marketed in the same manner. For now it has been brought to the Kalimpong market. Cinchona Plantation Authority is aspiring that it will also make huge success as Darjeeling Tea. Authorities said, Darjeeling coffee is getting ready for compete with 'well reputed brand'. For now experimentally they have started cultivation in 54 acres of land. Later it will be cultivated commercially.
Cinchona Plantation Director, Samuel Rai said, coffee farms in West Bengal not done till today. Cinchona Plantation tried to do coffee cultivation in the fifties. But they did not succeed at that time.
For the last four years, they have been experimenting in experimental farming and now It is possible. They have sent the sample of coffee to the coffee board for quality testing. They are thinking this coffee will be the same as Darjeeling tea.
Glass bottles were brought from Kolkata and they are refilling the bottle in Darjeeling. Labels have been printed from Siliguri. They are saying that their coffee is fully filtered. That's why its taste and smell is very good.
Now a days the Cinchona cultivation has almost stopped. In 2014 Plantation workers started coffee cultivation in 2 acres area testically. For that workers have take a training from Central Coffee Research Institute and The Director also Came with the training from Karnataka.
Usually coffee plantation is done in June-July and it started to give fruit in a couple of years. Rosbatta Coffee is cultivated maximum in India. Now this time almost a ton of coffee fruit has been produced. From this 6-7 quintal coffee has been found.
Director said, beyond the peel of the fruit the seeds are removed from the solid skin inside. There are no machines to do that work. So it's being called Hand Made Coffee.
