UNEMPLOYED YOUTH AND THE NIGERIAN ELECTIONS

If you are the type that can get yourself to defend yourself in the face of a violent attack, if you can stand the sight of human blood, I mean if you can shed blood legitimately without being held by the law, please drive to any of the suburbs of Lagos Nigeria.
Make sure you are driving a nice car, drive alone late at night say from 10:50 pm upwards and make sure you are on the last lane from the side of the road, just by the road demarcation.
Arm yourself with a weapon and just wait in expectation at the dense queue of vehicular traffic known in local parlance as ‘hold-up’.
They will come to you.
Those young men that sit in groups waiting for nothing that you can really explain, they will come to you in twos or threes, they will smash your car’s door screen on the driver’s side and proceed to rob you in the full glare of other motorists and nobody will do a thing. Not even the Police whose patrol van would be parked at the side of the road, they can’t see what’s happening to you in the last lane. The only one that can do something about it is you, if you have the wherewithal to use the arm you have brought along. Aim well and fell one or all of them then afterwards claim self defense. Your smashed glass would be your alibi.
Or, you could wait for the Police to come after it all and take you to their station for some midnight chat you may not find interesting at all.

This is a menace that needs to be tackled by a government that really understands the situation. This and more are the reasons the forthcoming elections are important to Nigerians.
We must elect credible people who have plans that will take care of the vulnerable in our society.
