Working in the clouds

A snapshot in the life of an Ecologist in the mountains of Scotland.

These guys are called slingers and they pull the electricity cables through pylons across the mountains of Scotland. On this cold January day on the job we were literally working in the clouds whilst being rewarded with stunning views of the mountains of Galloway Forest Park in South West Scotland. As an ecologist I help the electricity work crews access sensitive mountain bog environments, helping to lessen the environmental impact of such developments on these important landscapes and habitats.

Scotland is a one of the leaders of renewable energy in Europe, so connecting the many wind farms to the electricity grid will help meet the demands of modern electricity consumption in the United Kingdom, whist trying to move away from the use of fossil fuels that are doing incredible damage to the earth, our climate and human health.
