Relations With Others

All of us struggle with selfishness/self-centredness. The Chronic self-centredness that lies at the very core of humanity is what makes it extra difficult for some people. Many of us have lived as if we believed we were the last people on earth,completely blind to the effect our behavior has had on those who surround us.

Many people have overcome this Chronic self-centeredness that lies at the core of humanity through a process of honestly examining their relationships with the people in their life, their past relations with others and what went wrong. We can take a look at the wreckage of our past relations by honestly appraising them,and writing it down to identify the effects our behavior had on the people in our lives currently and past. Now, this task is not for everyone. It takes an honest desire to want to elevate themselves, and to build better relationships. To find such a desire usually has to come from the pain of loss.
We take what we have written on paper about the relationships in our lives. Past and present, and rigorously look for the place where we were wrong, where we were selfish, where we acted out of fear. We must be willing to do this, and more. We must be willing to make the necessary amends to these people. Seek them out and take responsibility for our part.

The variety of people we encounter in our day and the quality of our relations with them determines, to a great degree, the quality of our very lives. *Love, humour, excitement, caring- the things that make life worth living derive much of their meaning from being honestly shared with the people(relations) in our life. Understanding them we will want to discover the true nature of our relationships with others and mend whatever breaks we have discovered in those relations. **We will want to do the work necessary because the quality of our lives depend upon it.
