Why great ideas are born on the toilet?
I think you heard about this proverb as well. That all the great ideas are born while sitting on the toilet. And I think we both can admit that while not entirely true, it’s not entirely false either.
Have you ever wondered why is that? Have you asked yourself why you have, sometimes, such great ideas while, pardon my french, take a shit?
Well, the human mind is very chatty. Our mind never rests, not even in our sleep. But there are very few moments when we are listening to what our mind is telling us.
Because we are so busy surviving all day, we spend little time thinking. I know, you will say that you think every second, but I’m not saying about the focused thinking. I’m talking about the mind-wandering thinking. About the kind of thought process where don’t do anything and just let your mind free. We barely do that.
But when we are on the toilet, we have nothing better to do. Because the body can do its thing by itself. It doesn’t need the mind for that. He’s got the shitting part covered. So in that time, our usual busy mind starts to go places.
So it goes around, asking questions. And it comes up with questions and ideas that make us wonder ourself: From where did that come up?
Our mind is great and can tell us about great things. We just have to listen to her from time to time.
So, next time when you gotta go, leave your phone on the table and have a conversation with your mind. You could discover some pretty interesting stuff in the back of your mind.
